The work

About our footers

A footer is the concrete pad that spreads the weight of a building across the soil. If it's not dug to the right depth and width, or if the ground under it isn't compacted, the whole foundation can shift. You call us when you're ready to start building and your plans are in hand, or when your builder has told you it's time to dig. We come out and look at the site, check the ground, and talk through what your foundation needs before we load up the machine.

We dig the trench to the exact dimensions your plans call for, using a mini excavator for the bulk of the work and a shovel for the corners and the bottom. We check the depth and width as we go, and we make sure the bottom is level and compacted. If the soil is soft, we'll compact it with a plate compactor. Then we set up the forms, place the rebar or mesh as your plans specify, and pour the concrete from the truck so it flows evenly into every part of the trench.

The length and depth of the footers are the main things that change the job. A longer building needs more digging and more concrete. Soil conditions matter too: sandy or wet ground may need a wider footer or a deeper trench to get to solid bearing. Access to the site affects how we get the excavator and concrete truck in. Weather can slow the pour or the curing, and the time of year changes how long you wait before the foundation goes on.

On the day, we protect the ground around the trench, keep the spoil piled where it won't get in the way, and clean up before we leave. You don't need to do anything before we arrive except have the plans ready and make sure the site is clear. After we pour, you need to keep the concrete damp and let it cure. We'll tell you when it's safe to walk on, and we'll be back to strip the forms once it's set.

We dig the trench to the exact dimensions your plans call for, make sure the bottom is level and compacted, and pour the concrete so it cures strong.

We work from your foundation plans or the specs from your builder, and we're happy to talk through any questions you have. We also coordinate with the rest of your foundation crew so the timing works. We show up on time, do the job cleanly, and make sure the footers are ready for the next step.

Bearing Capacity

The soil under a footer must carry the building's weight. We dig to undisturbed ground and compact the bottom so the footer doesn't settle unevenly.

Rebar Placement

Steel reinforcing stops the concrete from cracking as it cures and carries tension. We place rebar or mesh per your plans, keeping it centered in the pour.

Our 4-step footers process

01

Site Visit

We come to your place, look at the plans, check the ground conditions, and mark out the footer lines. This tells us the dig depth and width you need.

02

Digging

Using a mini excavator, we cut the trench to the exact dimensions. We hand-trim the bottom and corners, and compact the soil so it's firm and level.

03

Pouring

We set the forms, lay the rebar, and pour the concrete from the truck. We work it into the corners and along the trench to avoid voids.

04

Curing

The concrete needs to cure slowly and stay damp. We'll tell you when to wet it, and we strip the forms once it's strong enough to hold its shape.

Why Dads Excavations for footers

  • Digging Right

A footer is only as good as the ground under it. We cut the trench to the right depth and width, and we compact the bottom so the concrete sits on solid, level soil that won't settle later.

  • Level Pour

If the top of the footer isn't level, the foundation walls will be out of plumb. We check the forms and the concrete as we pour, so you get a flat, even base for the next step.

  • Clean Site

We pile the spoil where it won't interfere, keep the trench free of loose dirt, and clean up before we leave. You're left with a tidy site ready for the foundation crew.
